Star Trek, The Universe, and Everything
“To boldy go where no [man/one] has gone before”
This quote from Star Trek in my opinion should exemplify the human spirit.
But it does not.
It boggles my mind why we waste so much time and energy and resources squabbling amongst ourselves. Think of the things we could accomplish as a species when we realize what’s possible if we put billions of dollars into scientific research and/or space exploration, rather than ammunition and oil.
THINK OF THE POSSIBILITIES
There is an episode of, I believe, Star Trek: Enterprise that depicts a bunch of space-cowboys launching their ship for the first time, and a first meeting with the Vulcans…ok maybe it was the movie “First Contact” now that I think about it. But anyways, these few scenes, with the breathtaking excitement of the launch, to reach out to unknown places, to learn new things. The emotion, excitement, and wonder is forever etched in my mind. If only it were real…
Not even necessarily with space ships, but why can’t we just be stoked to explore and discover and progress? Why must we be so foolish, treating our time as expendable, trading our souls for a dollar. Praying to figments of our imagination for solutions to our problems via magic. Why is everyone so greedy for money?
I’m greedy for knowledge and wonder, for hope and understanding.
In a nutshell, I long for profundity.
And when I find it, I want to share it.
I hope I live to see the day when the sheep-masses awaken. I only wish I knew how to accelerate the process.
*sigh* I’ll go back to contemplating my existence now.
